Roadside Oddity in St. Augustine, Florida
A1A Roadside Find

Here is a roadside oddity that we came across riding back from St Augustine while in Florida. This guy was spotted on Route A1A, in the Hammock area. We believe at one time he was a proud representative of the famous roadside free sweet orange juice samples. Despite the fade of color, missing arms and clearly weathered testifies that he has stood alongside the road for some time. Strangely, he still seems happy to watch the cars go by and stand guard over the children’s bicycles.

I vividly remember traveling in the back seat of my dad’s Caddy as a child stopping for that free sample of fresh squeezed Florida Orange Juice with my parents. I also remember the little round plastic orange ball with the green top and little straw, which I would happily carry back to the car clutched in my little hands. Then anxiously fill back up with water at rest stops throughout the rest of the road trip. I haven’t seen one of those little plastic oranges in a very long time. If anyone knows how long this old timer has stood on the southbound road along A1A in Florida, let Still Runnin Magazine know.

UH-OH Look What I Found

How come you always find stuff you want at the least appropriate time? As my wife and I were leaving my mom’s house over on the west coast of Florida the week before bike week, I mentioned that I had seen an old hot rod that had been obviously sitting at a house for quite sometime and I wanted to take some pictures of it.

I could tell it was a ‘49 or ‘50 Ford, no motor or trans and heavily modified. As we started to take pictures a gentleman came out of the house and invited us to come into the yard to get better pictures. On closer inspection it was a ‘49, nosed, decked, frenched headlights, taillights, shaved handles, chopped and sectioned 7”. It appeared that the work had been done years ago, as in “back in the day”.
