The Longroofs Lineup

THE LONGROOFS

The Longroofs were created on April 6th of 2004 by a group of wagon loving friends (Bruce Woodworth, Paul Woodworth, and Patrick Yeager) who saw the up coming of wagons into the hot rod scene and really wanted to have a place for fellow wagoneers whether they be rodders or restorers to share information and techniques. A forum that was not make or model specific, where a Ford guy could share some thoughts and help a Chevy guy and vise versa. All Longroofs welcome at longroofs.com.

So Many Reasons for a Wagon…
Charter Members & Family Members

My name is Bruce Woodworth. I’m 58 years old and have been driving station wagons since I got my driver’s license in 1965. I am building a 1964 Chevy Nova wagon. I drive station wagons because they are not only stylish and relatively easy to find, but because they are practical. They have the same general body style as the more popular coupe, but they are different and I like different. I’ve always loved the ‘road less traveled’ and my wagons have fit the bill. Plus, there’s an indescribable joy in shutting down a newer-model coupe with “Grandma’s Old Station Wagon.”

My name is Pam Woodworth. I’m 57 years old. My husband is building me a 1971 Chevelle station wagon. I love going to the grocery store with my Chevelle wagon. It has power and it will haul more groceries than I can afford to buy and does it all with style and an aggressive sound that the other moms can only envy! Of course it uses more gas than a Hyundai, but I can hold my head up when I drive my Chevelle and not have to worry as much if I get into an accident! I learned to drive in my dad’s ‘64 Bel Air wagon and I feel safer than when I drove my Malibu or even my Camaro. “Wagons rock”!

My name is Patrick Yeager. I’m 26 years old. I have been driving wagons since before I got my drivers license. My first car was wagon and I still have that one. It is my grandma’s 1966 Ford Country Sedan. I remember riding around with my grandparents in that car when I was very young. All of my aunts (4 of them) and my mother learned to drive on that car. To me wagons are the perfect vehicle. They have the room of an SUV, the towing power of truck, and the handling and ride of a car. What else do you need? My wagon is a 1966 Ford Country Sedan originally with a 352 FE 4 barrel, now she is sporting a .40 over Ford 400 with ported and polished 351 Cleveland 2V heads, an Edelbrock 4 barrel, Offenhauser Aluminum intake, modified Sanderson headers, Short Flowmaster exhaust, Crane Cam, Mallory 6-AL electronic ignition, and a race prepped c-6 with a lowered gear set, all backed of course by a Ford 9 inch rear.

Why a Longroof?

My name is Amanda Jones I am 22 years old. I bought my first wagon at the Spring Spectacular car show here in Daytona Beach. It’s a 1964 Mercury Colony Park with a stout 390. I’m working on restoring it. I bought another ‘64 Mercury Colony Park in Kentucky, to help restore the other’s bad body. I like wagons because they’re unique. Especially older wagons, I think they all have something special to them. Everyone has a different look and feel to them. “Whether it’s an all around family wagon or an all out drag wagon I love them”.

Standing out in a crowd of mini vans! Love hearing “I mean REALLY, a STATION WAGON?” or “You really WANTED a wagon?!” Even with the 17’s on her the thieves stay away. Looks totally tight going down the drag strip at about 100 mph! And finally, Cold Air intake $120, Roller rockers $300, Valve Springs $170, Shift kit $120, Cat back exhaust $250, 57 Hub caps $60, Taking out a pocket rocket in grandpa’s wagon!! Priceless!

Why? Better to ask why not?
Why would anyone want to drive the average or mundane when you can drive something unusual (or weird as hell to some people). Ask yourself if you follow the crowd on the path so many others have walked before you, or do you blaze your own trail? When you go where no man has been before, don’t forget you’ll have to haul around a bunch of crap you’ll need when you get there! You’ll need a wagon.

Two guitars, amps, stands, dog, two keyboards, PA speakers, wife, lights, tangles of wires, kids, groceries, all those flowers from Grandma’s funeral and don’t forget several full coolers of beer and tequila. It doesn’t fit into a sedan. Keep in mind you’ll also need a place to sleep after the several coolers full of beer and tequila anyway. Let’s pack that stuff in here, beer, dog, tequila, wife. Hold on! There’s another kid around here somewhere I need to stuff in. Luckily there’s still room, because it’s a wagon! Otherwise there’d only be room for the sheep and the tequila. Did I say Sheep? OOPS! I meant dog! Hold on to that thought. Wait a minute….no kids… no wife… so maybe a sedan isn’t so bad after all! But it just wouldn’t be as cool, BECAUSE LONG ROOFS RULE!

Like many us, I grew up in station wagons. What other vehicle provides the hauling capacity of a truck, the mileage of a sedan and the ride of a luxury car? Not to mention they are just plain cool. Just add rims and the whole look of the car changes. Whether I am hauling 7 people or full sheets of plywood, these cars are the best vehicles ever made.
