Time sure flies when you’re having fun ... and we have been having too much fun meeting up with good folks at the car shows. If there is one thing I like better then cars, it is the stories behind them! Many of which we here at Still Runnin Magazine are anxious to share with you knowing that you will appreciate them as much as we have.

I am suppose to be loading the GTO to head out for the 7th Annual Muscle Madness show in York but wanted to get this issue started ... so here goes.

When I say we’re having too much fun sometimes there are too many things happening at the same time, which was the case the 3rd weekend of May. The Jalopy Showdown was going on in Latimore, PA. We had committed ourselves to the Hot Rods and Harley’s show in Jersey, but wanted to do both, so we headed for Latimore for a sneak preview of the tradition styled hot rods and kustoms that would be runnin’ the track.

The weather was not very promising, black clouds loomed overhead for most of the trip. Not that would much matter at the Jalopy Showdown, the sloppier the track the more fun would be had. We arrived on the grounds before the sun went down and were able to meet a few of the guys that were waiting for the showdown to begin.

Rain or shine, the atmosphere around the track was far from gloomy. Slopping in the mud both participants and spectators forecasted the same ... "a good time was going to be had at the Showdown!" Although time was short, we enjoyed our time with the folks we had spoken with. We hated to leave so soon, but had to get down the road to Rahway.

So many shows, so little time! Oh by the way, the forecast was correct, the sun did shine Saturday for a great day at the track for the Jalopy Showdown. If you missed it like we did, be sure to mark your calendars for next year, this show is a good time!

Despite a good faith attempt, I can’t really count the Jalopy Showdown ... so first on the venue was our initiation to the Hot Rods and Harleys show in Rahway. This year’s event was by far the biggest and best ever ... what a year to attend. This is an annual event, while Liberty Harley-Davidson / Buell was hosting the awesome motorcycles on display and crowd pleasing performances from Bubba Blackwell at the Rahway Train Station Plaza, over 275 classic cars were displayed through the rest of downtown.

We were pleased to finally meet face to face with the builders of the history making Kopper Kart Klone. The Klone made its first local appearance since coming home from its debut at the 56th Detroit Autorama where the “recreation” of the (world famous national award winner Barris Kustom) was awarded 3rd place in the “Radical Truck” category. The HR&H show is home turf to the Kopper Kart, allowing Vic Collins, owner of the Kart to bring the Klone out to share their experience with the community and show participants.
