We met up with the Kopper Kart build team who were there with the Kart making its first debut since Detroit, which was driven to the show. In person you see the detail of the work that went into this truck and the attention to duplicate the original. Awards were given out at four O’clock (no award was given for the most rock chips, I might have won that one) and we headed out to diner with the Kart crew, who did win a trophy. I have to say you see a show car (or truck) on display is one thing, but when you see it running down the road it seems somehow, complete. We returned back to the motel around midnight in the rain once again.
Sunday we headed up to northwestern NJ to meet with renowned pinstriper Mr. Alan Johnson. What a treat and a privilege to see his collection of works he has done over the years and hear of some of the vehicles he has worked on. We pulled out of Jersey around 6:00pm running the Vette hard as I had to be to work Monday morning in Richmond. Got in about 1:00am and the old girl was as much fun to travel in now as it was in 1970 when I put it on the road. Damn good for a car pulled out of junk yard 39 years ago.
I recommend this show whether you have a car to put in it or you’re just a spectator. From all the local shops, deli’s and taverns, to cars that ranged from a stock 1928 eight cylinder Studebaker, to a Mopar powered 57 Ford, to Harleys there is something for everybody.
Keep Driving your old stuff
Big John
