Lawn chairs lined the curbs and tailgates served as front row seats for the parade of various old cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Special guest, George Barris was said to be among the crowd and offered a bit of history about his career and answered questions from the audience during a special presentation. “The King of Kustomizers” presented his own George Barris Shield award at the award ceremony later in the day.

Once again here in Roanoke we met some very interesting people, Roddy Moore was one of them. Roddy in short is a man of contrast, reigns as folklorist of Blue Ridge Culture. He is the director of the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum at Ferrum College. A man of diverse interests, if time allowed I could’ve stood there listening to Roddy for hours. Between his love for hot rods, horses, music and history, the stories that Roddy Moore could tell are endless.

One conversation we had with Roddy, once we were back home, led us the following day to  Richmond to see an exhibition produced by the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum of Ferrum College, “Moonshine - Blue Ridge Style”.

It was a great display of the region’s history of moonshining. What a pleasure to have met and speak to him during the show.

Car shows and Cruise-ins bring out the best in people, but I believe the town of Roanoke brings out the best in people regardless of a car show or cruise. The organizers of the Star City Motor Madness did a splendid job covering a huge area of the town where participants and spectators had a fabulous weekend.

I hear the GTO rumbling in the driveway, that’s my cue, time to head out to the Muscle Madness show. Remember what we’ve been saying: “this magazine is meant to be as much yours as it is ours”.
