Big Thrills - 1957 Buick Special
We stopped at some friends of ours and Donnie kept insisting that I drive it and take my friend Connie for a ride, finally I gave in and off we went. Man Oh Man! Donnie and I both didn’t know how much I could peel rubber in that car! I was squealin them tires all over Christmas! When we got back, my poor husband looked at me with his very pale face and said “I didn’t think that car would be able to do that!” Then he took his buddy Sonny for a ride! We have since gone to the Turkey Run in Daytona Beach three times in it, the Easter Rod Run in Orlando, The Plant City Car Show, The Beach Blast in Cocoa Beach and of course our Christmas parade here in our hometown of Christmas, Florida. We threw out 15lbs. of candy and 10lbs of doggie biscuits!
The best time we had with someone else in it was when my sister, Pam came down for Christmas last year. Sadly, she died from breast cancer this past September, but we were talking about THE RIDE! When she was here to spend Christmas last year, Donnie and I went to my nieces’ house, Laurie to pick her up. Pam just loved our car! She said our Daughter Sunshine was right, that when you sit in it, you feel like you are in that movie Driving Miss Daisy and that we need a cocktail! She and I were in the back seat and on the way home she said “Donnie, let’s see what she’s got!” That’s ALL he had to hear! Next thing we know we were both slung back in our seats and MOVIN! She screamed and laughed all the way home! Once she moved here for her last days, we would try to drive to see her in it as often as the weather permitted and as long as it was a good day for her. I like to think that our Buick gave her some happiness as it does us every time we get in it.
We make special memories in it every time we drive. We might get another one later down the road when the economy picks up, we’d like to get a Roadmaster, but we will not give this one up. I know Donnie is always so happy whenever he drives it, he always gets the biggest smile!
What a Great Anniversary gift to each other!
I love you Sweety.
