The weather was absolutely perfect convertible weather. Mid 70's, blue sky, no humidity. A speed limit of 45 made the ride move along but not so fast that we couldn't take in the breathtaking views.
If you ever want to meet people, take a trip in an old Corvette. From senior citizens to bikers the car seems to make people somehow more comfortable talking to strangers. Almost every stop questions about the car ... how long you owned it, and aren't you afraid to take it places where it could be damaged or stolen are asked.
This Corvette has been in my possession since 1969. It has weathered my high school years, first wife, two kids, car shows up and down the East coast and countless stupid decisions. I believe that if you don't use these cars they go to hell sitting, and you are missing the best part of owning an old car.
My '58 is currently running a '57 283 bored 30 over, 69 M22 rock crusher 4 speed, and a '59 El Camino rear. This combo, although not planed this way, makes the car a nice road trip vehicle. It leaks like a sieve in the rain and the heater is, well, it more than likely didn't work that well in '58, so...lets just say you have to really enjoy old sports cars to do any real traveling in it. My wife, Lea and myself do.
