On Saturday night, I believe it was the Main Street Merchants Car Show took place on Main Street (go figure) in Daytona. Although attendance was not what it could have been, I believe better advertising would have helped. The majority of people we spoke to hadn’t heard any word of it.
However, it was a great setting for a show. Main Street was closed and all show cars parked in the street. The cars were varied from 20’s and 30’s stock to homegrown customs to muscle cars, with no fee to enter and show your car!
I would like to see this show take off. There are certainly enough cars in town and anyone who has been to Bike Week of Biketoberfest knows how Main Street can draw and hold a crowd.
If you attend the Turkey Run next year try to make this show, with or without showing your car. The usual watering holes were open, the Boot Hill Saloon, Dirty Harry’s and Froggy’s for liquid refreshments, as well as vendors on the street for food.
The street was decorated up for the holidays making the stroll down Main Street checking out all the fine cars all the more enjoyable. A brilliant idea!
Just trying to find a parking spot in Bellair Plaza in the evening is evidence enough to prove that additional night time activities during this event are needed and would be most welcomed by the participants.
