7th Annual Star City Motor Madness
The Star City Motor Madness show evokes a true feeling of nostalgia. Downtown Roanoke’s historic strip was lined with a diverse collection of cars, both parked and cruisin’. People young and old lined up along Williamson Road with lawn chairs and tailgates dropped for front row seats to enjoy the town’s annual celebration of America’s passion for the automobile and the love of cruisin’.
Business parking lots became a string of continuous show areas where people could enjoy the vehicles close up and mingle with fellow gearheads and car owners. Friday night the strip was a continuous rolling display of automobiles of yesteryear that cruised into the wee hours of the morning.
City blocks were set-aside for cars, trucks and motorcycles for the Saturday show. Due to that four letter word, work, time did not allow us to attend both days. But we do know that this year’s choice automotive brand was the Corvette and over 100 Corvettes were on display.
Special guest was the “King of Kustomizers”, Mr. George Barris, who gave a presentation, mingled with the crowd and shared in the awards ceremony with his own George Barris Shield Award.
All proceeds from this show are to benefit the Virginia Museum of Transportation. The show was very well orchestrated. Everyone had a blast and money was raised for the museum all at the same time. The show is typically always the last Friday and Saturday before the Fourth of July. So mark your 2009 events calendar for a cruise to Roanoke, Virginia for the 8th Annual Star City Motor Madness show, you will not be disappointed.
