Designed it 1847 with distinctive and superior character, the first gravesite being sold in 1849. Still today the original stone gate stands at the entrance. Are there ghosts amoung the gardens and rolling hills? Some say yes that there are many spirits at large. Legends and folk tales along with reports of encounterers continue still today.
The 90 foot pyramid built in 1869 was built as a memorial to more than 18,000 enlisted men of the Confederate army who are buried in the cemetery. This is one of the spots said to have been the site of ghosts. Or is it James Monroe, our 5th president who arrived to a special gravesite area reserved for dignitaries on the western edge of the grounds or Johnn Tyler, our 10th president who rests near Monroe.
Or posssibly the man who’s body was drawn by six white horses which bore the coffin of the only president of the Confederate States, Jefferson Davis, to its final resting spot in Hollywood.
Or perhaps ... George Pickett or J.E.B Stuart, who are still are among us?
