After repeating myself a couple of times I think he and my mom finally got it (she didn’t know either) and realized the group effort that it had taken between myself and the rest of the family and friends to keep this a secret for so long. I let him know that this would be a father-son project from here on out once the car is moved to my new shop in Pennsylvania. Looking back at it I think working together on it will be a much more enjoyable way to complete a project like this, and I know that my dad is looking forward to getting his hands dirty on his ’60 Chevy once again ... I know I sure am.
There is something that I am most thankful for, I've learned over the years that family is most important and enjoying your life to the fullest is right up there with it. I expect that Dad's 1960 Chevy is, and always will be, a high point in his life as well my own.
Cheers,
Daran Rumbaugh
As you get to know Daran Rumbaugh as we have here at SRM, you learn more and more about his increasing interest in cars which started when he was about 9 years old. Now 37 and working as an Engineer, Daran has gained enough knowledge over the years to rebuild several engines (from full-house hotrod flathead Fords to high performance Chevy and Ford street engines) and brought a few cars back from extinction and onto the show circuit. His most recent project was a 1972 Bronco Sport that was near death as a plow truck and he brought it back to life as a multi-show winner resto-mod, doing all of the work himself with the exception of machine work on the motor and overhauling the automatic transmission. Daran was also on the build team helping some good friends to complete a clone of the George Barris ‘Kopper Kart’ for the 2008 Detroit Autorama. Daran tells us that after he is finished with his dad’s Impala he has plans to attack a 1942 Ford Coupe that he has set aside to build as a radical custom. With help from a friend he chopped the roof on that car before putting it into storage, and you can expect to see it with many other custom modifications added to the list as time goes on. I think the 1942 Ford and his dad's 1960 Chevy are early examples of the quality work that we will see coming from Daran Rumbaugh's shop in the future. Still Runnin Magazine will be keeping a close eye on Daran and we look forward to the custom build of the '42 but more important at the moment is watching this now father and son build come to completion. We can't wait to see! To Mr. & Mrs Rumbaugh there is only one thing we have to say to you both, and that is ... you have one heck of a son there to be very proud of! Enjoy the ride Dad !!
